A Rocket has landed! Base 1 children are enjoying playing in the space rocket and mission control.
Making Moon Craters
Base 1 children wanted to know how the craters on the moon were formed.
We found that craters are formed when meteorites, asteroids and comets strike the moon’s surface at speed. We dropped items (foil and polystyrene balls and marbles) into a tray of flour to create craters. We found that the bigger and heavier objects dropped from a greater height made the largest craters.
Building an Igloo
The children started to collect empty milk bottles for a ‘Mystery Project’ before the Christmas holidays. Once enough bottles were collected the children were given the challenge of ‘What could we use them for?’ There was a range of ideas; den, cave and finally an igloo. Mr Nicholson joined us (with his tool box and safety equipment) to make the igloo and we all enjoyed playing in it.

READING
Our Reception children really enjoy learning to read right from the beginning of their time at school. We teach synthetic phonics using the Read Write Inc scheme which supports the children throughout Key Stage 1 and into Key stage 2 until they become confident readers. We use a range of reading schemes starting with the Read Write Inc ditty books. Our core reading scheme is the Oxford reading Tree supplemented by a range of fiction and non-fiction texts ensuring that all young readers find interesting and challenging reading materials.
